John Belew is the Freshman head coach and is also their defensive coordinator. He is a 1990 graduate of Turlock High. While attending THS, John earned letters in both football and wrestling. In 1989, John helped the Bulldogs to advance to their first ever playoff appearance. For his efforts that year, he was named the Most Valuable Player of the Modesto Bee's All-District Team.

After High School, John played football collegiately for Modesto Junior College and then at the University of Mary in Bismark, ND. John started his teaching/coaching career at Riverbank High School where he was an assistant varsity football coach and head wrestling coach from 1997-1999. In 1999 he joined the THS staff and continues to coach football and wrestling in addition to his teaching duties.
